Notebook CD DVD Burner: Choosing the Right Notebook Optical Drive

A notebook CD DVD burner or drive allows you to set up a multimedia system that meets your personal or business computing requirements. There are five basic options to choose from when deciding whether you want a CD drive, a DVD drive, or both. You may choose more than one option when customizing a new notebook computer or selecting a refurbished notebook. Having dual drives will allow you to complete two tasks at the same time. The decision is up to you and it pays to think about how you are going to use a notebook computer before you buy one. The lowest-priced new notebooks on the market typically come with at least a notebook CD DVD combo drive that lets you burn CDs and watch DVDs. Some low-priced notebooks come with a DVD burner that lets you burn both CDs and DVDs. Here are the 5 options to choose from when selecting a notebook CD DVD burner or drive:

1) CD-ROM: Let's you listen to CDs and load software from CDs.
2) DVD-ROM: Let's you listen to CDs, view DVDs, and load software from CDs and DVDs.

3) CD-RW: Let's you listen to CDs, load software from CDs, and burn CDs.

4) CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo: Let's you listen to CDs, view DVDs, load software from CDs and DVDs, and burn CDs.

5) DVD-RW(DVD Burner): Let's you listen to CDs, view DVDs, load software from CDs and DVDs, and burn CDs and DVDs.

Like I stated above almost all new notebook computers on the market today come with option 4(CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo drive) or 5(DVD Burner). Some new notebooks also offer Blu-Ray Disc drives that allow you to watch and/or burn Blu-Ray Discs as well as burn CDs and DVDs. Where the other three notebook CD DVD options come into play is when you want a second(dual) optical drive so that you can perhaps write to one drive while reading data from the other. Or maybe you want to watch a DVD while burning CDs. It's ultimately up to you. The bottom line is that it's worth taking a peek at what kind of notebook CD DVD burner or drive comes with the notebook computer you are considering buying. If the specifications don't meet your personal or business computing requirements then look over any customization options available and see if you can bump up to the next level of optical drive systems.
